First Stamps of Aitutaki
Cook Islands stamps were the original source of postage on Aitutaki from 1892 to 1903. In 1903, New Zealand overprinted its own stamps with "AITUTAKI" and the local denomination and these were used as Aitutaki stamps. Only overprinted New Zealand stamps were issued until 1920.

First Stamps of Australia
Australia has an interesting postal history.
The country's foundation, much like that of the United States, is based on states, six British colonies that federated on Jan. 1, 1901. The date is not philatelically significant because postage stamps inscribed "Australia," were not issued until 1913.
Until those first stamps for Australia came on the scene, each state had its own stamps.
New South Wales and Victoria were the first of the Australian colonies to issue stamps, doing so in 1850. They were followed by Van Diemens Land (later called Tasmania) in 1853, Western Australia in 1854, South Australia in 1855 and Queensland in 1860.
Northern Territory did not have its own stamps. It used South Australian stamps, which meant that Darwin, the Northern Territory's largest and northernmost city, had a postmark that read "South Australia."
Collecting the stamps from Australia's colonies can be devilishly complex and expensive, but collectors who are not insistent upon completion can form a representative collection of Australian colonial stamps for surprisingly little money.
The first stamps issued by New South Wales are called "Sydney Views," based on the central design, the Seal of the Colony, which shows a view of Sydney. A 1-penny red Seal of the Colony stamp, Scott 1.
Following the Sydney Views are several different series of stamps with portraits of Queen Victoria.
The early stamps are both costly and complicated to collect, with different plates and plate varieties, watermarks and shades.
Budget-minded collectors can find New South Wales stamps that are plentiful and affordable if they fast-forward to the Queen Victoria issues that were released beginning in 1871.

Stick-on postage stamps were first used in New Zealand in 1855, when this ‘full-face queen’ stamp showing a young Queen Victoria was produced. Before this, every letter had to be individually paid for at the post office. The basic rate for local letters was twopence, so two of these stamps would be needed. A letter cost a shilling (12 pence) to send to England.

1901 Stamps of Papua New Guinea - British New Guinea - Lakatoi - stamps #1-8
The postage stamps and postal history of Papua New Guinea were linked to the Australian administration on the Eastern part of the island of New Guinea until its independence in 1975.
Colonial division of the island of New Guinea, before 1914: in the West, the Dutch part ; in the North-East, the German part (pictured here without the Bismarck Archipelago) ; and in the South-Esat, the British one renamed Papua by the Australian government.
In the South, Papua, formally under British rule, used the stamps of Queensland between 1885 and 1901. With the creation of the Commonwealth of Australia, the philatelic production and postal organisation were decided by an Australian administration and the stamps printed in Brisbane, then Melbourne.
In the North, New Guinea was under the control of the German Empire and used its stamps between 1888 and 1897. The colony got stamps bearing its name after 1897. Consequently to the Australian conquest in 1914, the remaining German colonial stamps and some Australian ones, were overprinted. After the Territory of New Guinea became a League of Nations mandate entrusted to Australia, this country organised the postal system and philatelic production in New Guinea.
After the Japanese occupation of New Guinea and the suppression of civil administration in Papua at the beginning of 1942, the stamps of Australia were used between 1945 and 1953, before the two united territories got their own stamps. Progressively, it obtained its philatelic and postal autonomy, and finally independence in September 1975.

The little town of Hanga Roa, the only place on the island where people are allowed to live (the rest of the island is a national park). Only 5,000 people live here and they mostly depend on tourism for their income so the town is filled with little restaurants, cafés and souvenir shops that cater to tourists. There’s also one bank, one post office (from which we got some very cool stamps in our passports for USD 1), an interesting museum and a hospital. The town’s harbour was filled with many fishing boats.

1882-84-93 Stamps of Tahiti - Stamps of French Colonies Surcharged in Black - stamps #1-26
The use of Tahiti postage stamps on mail first became valid on 25 October 1862, using the general stamps of the French Colonies. In 1882 a shortage of 25c stamps necessitated a surcharge on less-used values. Some of the surcharges also included the name "TAHITI". This happened again in 1884 with 5c and 10c values.
In 1892, the Navigation and Commerce issue for French Oceania became available, and in 1893, two kinds of overprint were applied to the remaining stocks of regular and postage due French Colonies stamps; one type was a slanted overprint reading "TAHITI" and the other was a horizontal "1893 / TAHITI".
